At a loss for words.

I'm so confused.

Ok so this blog is going to be semi personal.  Today I received a phone call from my best friend and she said “Where are you going?”  I told her no where I was sitting at home and she said to me “No I was just at my sisters house and I saw you drive by”.  I was confused at first as to what she ment so I said “No I’m sitting at home right now, I’m not going anywhere”  in which she replied “Joshua I just saw you your were wearing an orange shirt”.  I look down at the shirt I have been wearing all day and im wearing a white shirt with blue words on it.  So we talked for another minute or two, she swears I was there I swear I wasn’t.  So she then calls again and says “Joshua I know I saw you.  My sister even said hey look that’s Josh.”  and all I could do was keep repeating “I didn’t go past your sister’s house”,  I mean what else do you say when your accused of being somewhere when you weren’t?  So we hang up and I text her “Your crazy yo!”  and the next time I look at my phone she has texted me back saying “no ur fuckin crazy i seen u and i no ur lyin I saw u” (that’s exactly how she text it too.)  So we continued to go back a forth for a while she keeps saying im lying and I swear to god I didn’t go past her sisters house I don’t even have a reason to.  So it ended up with me  getting a text that said “Ok….well wen u admit it ill continue the conversation”.  so now I don’t know whats going on, I don’t know if we’re fighting or if we’re just not talking or if we’re mad at each other or whats going on!  Does anyone have a suggestion as to what I should do???

Don't let desk jobs do you in... stay in shape!

Here are a few easy tips to stay in shape, even if you are stuck in the office majority of your day…. these tips can help you stay energized and in shape even throughout your hectic schedule!

Walk or ride a bike to work if possible. If you use public transportation, get off a few stops early and walk the rest of the way; or, park your car as far as possible from the door. If an errand is a mile or less, try walking or biking the distance.

Take exercise breaks instead of coffee breaks. Take the stairs up and down a few flights or take a short walk outside. Short bursts of activity throughout the day add up to a fitter, trimmer you.

Be prepared for fitness. Keep a pair of sneakers at your desk, along with an umbrella, and an extra sweater or windbreaker, and you’ll be ready for an exercise break no matter what the weather.

Get up a little earlier in the morning to fit in a 30 minute brisk walk in your neighborhood. Ask a neighbor, friend, spouse or child to join you. You’ll build a firmer body and a stronger relationship.

Lift weights. “Resistance training” is critical for maintaining lean body mass throughout our lives. Employ the services of a certified physical trainer to make sure you are lifting correctly. Because muscle tissue is more metabolically active than fat tissue, the leaner we are, the more calories we burn at rest, or sitting at our desks.

Turn off the TV. There is a direct relationship between hours of television watched and percent body fat! In other words, the more we watch, the fatter we are.

Make your calories count. If you snack at your desk, choose foods that are low in calories and high in nutrients. Instead of candy and chips, munch on apples and baby carrots. As we get older, and especially if we are physically inactive, we really can’t afford to eat foods that deliver a lot of calories but few nutrients. Make sure the majority of the foods you eat are contributing to your health and fitness.

Fool yourself. Of course you can still eat brownies and ice cream. Just serve yourself smaller portions. You’ll be satisfied with less if you eat from smaller, but attractive dishes.

Choose beverages wisely. Drink more water, and less soft drinks; keep a water bottle at your desk. Go easy on alcoholic beverages too–they are loaded with calories.

Give yourself time. Schedule regular physical activity into your life just as you would any important meeting. Think of healthy habits as an investment in your life and a contribution to your productive, healthy future.

Talk to co-workers and employers about starting a worksite wellness program with incentives and team-building activities.

If you are ready to take it to the next level and really get in the best shape of your life… check out www.orangetheoryfitness.com

Challenge your expectations and your limits with 30 or 60 minutes of interval training. Intense bursts of activity, combined with fatigue-level strength training give you an amazing workout that is always challenging and fun. An Orangetheory workout will give you the energy you need to feel great, look great, and achieve your fitness goals. Learn more about the theory behind Orangetheory.

What did the 2009 tax stimulus do for you? Part 2

Did you buy a new car, motorcycle, truck (weight must qualify) or motor home?

If the answer is yes, and the purchase was made after February 16, 2009, you just bought yourself a tax deduction.  The stimulus plan enables us to deduct the sales tax paid up to a maximum of $49,500 of the vehicles price.

Do you remember Cash for Clunkers?  Well, this tax break applies to you and the higher income earners who usually get phased out.  Also, for those that do not normally itemize, you can still take this deduction.  There are little to no exclusions when it comes to writing off the sales tax paid in 2009 on a motor vehicle.

What if...

What if there are no road and no cars….

People have to walk to places…

BUT,

We won’t have suffer from pollution

We won’t have to buy cars

We won’t have to pay for fuel

We won’t have to pay for parking

We won’t have car accidents

People won’t be injured or dead from hit-and-run accidents

There won’t be traffic congestion

The air would still be clean

Natural resources would still be abundant

The world would have been a much nicer place to live.

But still, this is only ‘what if’

Worth Repeating: Going Carless

Now, before someone calls me a hypocrite, this post is not about my personal journey of going carless…because I haven’t started that journey yet.

This post is, however, about how any attempt, not matter how big or small, and for any amount of time one goes carless, is a great idea.

Here’s why, in pro/con format:

Pros!

Green is good. Biking makes your carbon footprint smaller. Cars put out approximately 20.4 lbs of CO2 emissions per gallon, SUV’s is up around 28 lbs. If you biked the equivalent of 1 gallon of gas per day (lets say 20 miles), you would lower your carbon footprint by almost 7500 pounds every year! (source)

For your health: Air pollution makes it harder for you to breathe, can send you to the hospital if you suffer from asthma, and possibly worse if you have respiratory problems. Not to mention that where I live, known as the Wasatch Front, is constantly ranked as one of the worst areas in the nation for certain types of air pollution.

Aside from lessening the pollution you’re putting out by not driving, biking is good for your respiratory system, your heart, and your overall fitness level.

It makes you more efficient! Think about it. If you’re going out to run errands on a bike, you’re probably going to plan your trip before you walk out the door so as to save time & energy. That spills over into how you treat the errands you need to run with a car, saving gas and lowering CO2 emissions.

Cons: ummm…sometimes it rains? and ummm, Utah drivers can often be quite scary…?

Sure, there are probably cons, but I personally think that the supposed down sides to biking or even walking to work/errands/whatever aren’t really that bad.

So, if you’ve got a bike, and if things are finally starting to warm up for you wherever you may live, then try it out, or keep it up if you’ve already tried to implement some carless practices in your day to day schedules.

Going carless: definitely worth repeating.
